Apparently, there will be a new registration record

With 350 registrations, 59 days before the race |
We have today more than 350 registrations which allow us to believe there will be a new participation record for a Marathon in Uruguay. Almost 90 athletes already registered are coming from abroad, from 7 different countries. 50 Uruguayan teams will be represented, being “Andarines” and “Correcaminos” the most numerous ones. Eleven Uruguayan departments will say present. |
NIKE and GATORADE will sponsor the Marathon

Nike will give a pair of running shoes to the winner of each category. |
Same as happened in the Colonia 2006 project, Nike and Gatorade have been the Punta del Este Marathon sponsors from the very beginning. The winner of each category, both male and female, will receive a pair of NIKE running shoes. Likewise, the first two males and the first two females of the general classification will receive a NIKE sports bag and outfit. Gatorade will provide 4 Gatorade hydration stations besides the one in the Finish area. |
More pacers confirmed!

We already have pacers for: 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30 and 4:45 |
We continue to add magnificent "pacers". The following have been confirmed: Dardo "Ultra" Segurola in 3:30, Sergio da Cunda in 3:45, Gerardo Re in 4:00, Andrés "Porteño" Bernard in 4:15, Washington Sauda in 4:30, and "Chirola" Mernis in 4:45. We are still waiting for more confirmations and we will very probably have pacers every 10 minutes in stead of every 15. ¡The call is still open for those interested! We particularly need pacers for 3:00 and 3:15. ¿Who dares? |
Free accommodation for 60 athletes at the Maldonado Campus

Beds are available from Friday 5 through Sunday 7 September. |
The Municipality of Maldonado offers 60 free places for Marathon participants (50 male and 10 female) for the nights of Friday 5, Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September at the Maldonado Campus. These places will be assigned chronologically, according to the date they were requested by mail to the following address: alojamientocampus@maratondepuntadeleste.com.uy indicating first name, last name, address and a contact telephone number (mandatory). In the section “accommodation” of our web page you will find more information on accommodation at the Campus. |

NIKE, HSBC, SALUS and the National Sports Department confirmed their support to the marathon. |
Same as last year, Salus confirmed its support to the Punta del Este International Marathon, assuming the responsibility of the hydration of both the race and the Pasta Party, with sparkling water, still water and flavored waters. Likewise, NIKE confirmed that they will present a pair of Nike running shoes to the first one of each of the 22 categories. The National Sports Department of the Sports and Tourism Ministry and HSBC Bank will also cooperate with the marathon. |
More running teams in charge of the water stations!

¡Thanks in advance to all those running teams which volunteered to be responsible for a water point or fruit station! This idea, which was implemented for the first time last year, was a big success and added much music and color to the circuit. For the time being, the distribution is the following: Km 5: Ruteros 60. Km 10: Re-Corredores. Km 15: Corredores de Las Piedras. Km 17,5: Huracán Buceo. Km 20: Las Saladas. Km 25: Los Supersónicos. Km 30: Los Rojos. Km. 32,5: Nacional. Km. 35: Olimpia. |
Registration for the 8k race and for the 2k Kids Mini Marathon are available

Same as in 2008, together with the Marathon, there will be an 8 km race and a 2 km kids mini marathon. Registrations for both are already available here.

Registration payment available through Redpagos
|
Same as in Colonia 2006 and 2007 and Punta del Este 2008, Redpagos will be sponsoring our International Marathon. Payments are already available in all the Redpagos Agencies in Uruguay. In order to be able to pay the registration, the athletes must print the invoice clicking the registration number on the left column of the Registration List (click here to see the registration list) and then take it to any Redpagos agent. |
Already confirmed Pacers
|
The same as in all the relevant marathons in the world, Punta del Este will have its “pacers”, or pace markers. For those who do not know what this is, they are expert marathon runner who ran with a small banner showing the time in which they will ran the race, tied to their bodies so that it can be seen from afar. All those runners who wish to follow a pacer will be able to do so and will therefore be sure to keep a constant pace along the 42 km. Previous experiences have been excellent. Our expert pacers have been very praised by their “followers”. This year, Dardo Segurola (3:30 hours), Andrés "Porteño" Bernard (4:15 hours) and "Chirola" Mernis (4:45 hours) have been confirmed. We are expecting the confirmation of other pacers and are willing to listen to the proposal of “new ones”. |
Dr. Martín Rubio will be the Medical Director of the event
|
Martín is a friend of the house who believed in our Project since the marathon of Colonia 2006 and has always given us his unconditional support, helping with the medical assistance organization. This year, we decided it was time we had a Medical Director for the event; someone who would centralize all the medical assistance issues related to the runners. Martín accepted this responsibility, which is for us a great relief, because he is, not only a qualified doctor specialized in sports but also an experienced marathon runner. |

Suca Sports is in charge of the race logistics
|
Same as in 2008, Suca Sports will be responsible for both, the logistics of the race and the timing through electronic chips. This company has a vast experience in the organization of races and has been in charge of the chip timing of all the Agrupación de Atletas del Uruguay championship races. |
The Ministry of Tourism and Sport has granted the 2nd International Punta del Este Marathon, Tourist Interest Status

On April 23, 2009, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Héctor Lescano, granted our 2nd Punta del Este International Marathon with Tourist Interest Status, since “it promotes the development of tourism, and the knowledge of our attractive spots and was therefore added to the preseason agenda activities.

The 2nd Punta del Este International Marathon will be organized by the AAU (for its name in Spanish, Uruguayan Athletes Association)

The Uruguayan Athletes Association (AAU for its name in Spanish) which groups more than 800 amateur runners will organize the 2nd Punta del Este International Marathon. The AAU was founded on May22, 1965 and also organizes an 18 street race championship in Montevideo and 7 other cities. |
