ARTICLE 1
The Uruguayan Athletes Association (AAU for its name in Spanish) organizes the Second International Punta del Este Marathon, to be held on Sunday, September 6. All those off age (18 years), as of the day of the race, will be able to participate.
ARTICLE 2
The circuit measures exactly 42 kms 195 mts. This distance has been measured and certified according to the rules and quality standards required by the IAAF (International Association of Athletic Federations), through the Uruguayan Athletic Confederation. The start is in front of the Maldonado Municipality (Román Guerra street corner with Tres de Febrero). The route goes over some Maldonado, Punta del Este, San Rafael, La Barra and Pinares streets and the finish is near the start area. The event has all the support of the Transit Department of the Maldonado Municipality as well as that of several volunteers. However, some streets will be partially open to traffic and participants will therefore have to increase their precautions in order to look after themselves.
ARTICLE 3
The race starts at 8:00 am and the maximum time duration is 6:00 hours, that is to say, the finish will be closed at 2:00 pm. After that moment, all the control points will be removed and the circuit will be completely open to regular traffic.
ARTICLE 4
Registrations can be made in the www.maratondepuntadeleste.com.uy website, fully filling in the available form in the “Registration” section and following the instructions therein. (http://www.maratondepuntadeleste.com.uy/english/
registration.html). Those athletes who register themselves in Uruguay must pay the registration fee in any Redpagos countrywide, presenting the printed form obtained in the web and will receive a receipt. 96 hours after the payment was performed, the athlete will appear as registered and the payment confirmed in the website. Should he not appear as registered after this period he should send a mail informing this circumstance to: consultas@maratondepuntadeleste.com.uy. The registration cost is the following: Athletes residing en Uruguay, who already have a Uruguayan Athletes Association active chip for the 2009 championship: $550 (five hundred and fifty Uruguayan Pesos) until August 6 included and $ 850 (eight hundred and fifty Uruguayan Pesos) from August 7 through September 3. After September 3, the registration must be paid in Punta del Este, Campus Municipal de Maldonado on September 5 the moment you pick up the kit.
Athletes residing abroad: US$ 30 (thirty American Dollars) until Agust 6 included and US$ 40 (forty American Dollars) from Agust 7 through September 3. Registrations should be paid through PayPal or any of our authorized agents in Argentina or Brazil.
The registration cost includes a kit with the following::
- A souvenir T-shirt;
- Ticket for the pasta party which will take place the night before the race;
- Runners number;
- Electronic chip;
- Plastic bag for personal effects;
- Presents from the sponsors.
ARTICLE 5
The kits will only be handed on Saturday, September 5 at the Campus Municipal de Maldonado. The athletes will receive their kit upon presentation of the following:
- Identification card
- Uruguayans: Medical certification.
Foreigners: Medical certificate, proving there are no recommendations against running a marathon.
- Those registered in Uruguay must present the Redpagos certificate and those registered abroad the PayPal confirmation mail or the receipt provided by the authorized agents.
ARTICLE 6
There will be water points in Kms. 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and in the Finish area according to the I.A.A.F. rules and two fruit stations in kms 17.5 and 32.5. Also, there will be four isotonic drink (Gatorade) points along the route in Kms. 17.5, 27.5, 32.5 y 37.5.
ARTÍCULO 7
The numbers must be visibly placed in the chest. They should not be modified in any way, nor folded. Those athletes who do not show their number, do not complete the circuit or have antisport behavior, will be disqualified. The controls will be performed by judges of the Uruguayan Athletic Confederation (CAU for its name in Spanish).
ARTICLE 8
The classifications will be the following:
Category A: 18 to 19 years.
Category B: 20 to 24 years.
Category C: 25 to 29 years.
Category D: 30 to 34 years.
Category E: 35 to 39 years
Category F: 40 to 44 years.
Category G: 45 to 49 years.
Category H: 50 to 54 years.
Category I: 55 to 59 years.
Category J: 60 to 64 years.
Category K: 65 years on
Category L: Different capacities.
The same categories will apply for both female and male, and will be fixed according to the age of the athlete the day of the race. Also, there will be a general female, male and athletes with different capacities classification.
ARTICLE 9
All the athletes who complete the race within the time established in Article 3 will receive a souvenir medal.
ARTICLE 10
All those who run the race without proper registration, without number, with an altered number or who is not off age according to the rules, will not have access to the benefits reserved for the athletes who have officially been registered and might also be asked to abandon the race at any time. Any of the aforementioned circumstances will be cause for automatic disqualification. The Organization has the right to perform random antidoping tests to the competitors, especially to the winners of the race. Should there be a positive result, the athlete will be immediately disqualified and will have to return any prices he might have received.
ARTICLE 11
There will be ambulances along the route and an aid station at the finish area, managed by doctors and specialized personnel.
ARTICLE 12
The Organization recommends that all participants submit themselves to a medical check previous to the race, in order to establish whether they are apt for it or not.
ARTICLE 13
The Organization will provide a place close to the start / finish areas for the athletes to leave their personal belongings, but will not be responsible for the objects inside each bag.
ARTICLE 14
The Organization will provide transportation to pick up the athletes who, for any reason, do not wish to or can not continue in the race.
ARTICLE 15
The prize-giving ceremony will take place in the Finish area at 1 pm and the following prizes will be presented:
a) a trophy for the first 3 male of each category; b) trophy for the first 3 female of each category; c) trophy for the 5 first of the general male classification; d) trophy to the 5 first of the general female classification. Only those categories with at least 3 participants will receive a trophy. The categories which have less than 3 participants will be included in the category which age is immediately below. Also, a prize in cash will be given to the 5 first of the general male classification and to the 5 first of the general female classification (the amount has not yet been confirmed). The final classification guaranteed by the judges of the race is final, and so are the decisions made by the same during the race.
The organization will not send any trophies to the runners who did not take theirs during the prize giving ceremony. The trophies which were not taken will remain in the custody of the Uruguayan Athletes Association, which headquarter is in Canelones 982, Montevideo, and can be picked up at any prearranged time (+598) 99 633476.
ARTICLE 16
Only the vehicles authorized by the organization will be allowed to follow the race. It is absolutely forbidden to follow the runners with motorbikes, bikes or any other vehicles and the local police has been instructed to invite unauthorized vehicles to move out, in order to avoid all possible accidents.
ARTICLE 17
It is absolutely forbidden to run with political or religious legends no matter which. Should this situation be detected, the athlete will be requested to remove the legend, under penalty of being disqualified.
ARTICLE 18
All the athletes participating in this race do so under their sole responsibility, being aware that participating in a marathon may imply serious risks. The Organization declines all responsibility for the damages the participation in the race may cause to the athlete personally, to other people and also in the case of damage that third persons may cause to the participants.
ARTICLE 19
It is mandatory that all participants sign –the moment they pick up the kit– the Responsibility Disclaim and the acceptance of the present rules.
ARTICLE 20
By the mere fact of registering, all athletes are expressly authorizing the publication of their names in the Classification of the race and of their pictures in the media and or internet.
ARTICLE 21
The Organization has the right to modify any of the aforementioned articles of these regulations, before the race starts.
